Jess & Iian's Wedding at Fison Barn, Earth Trust | A Beautiful May Wedding in Long Wittenham
Some weddings are memorable because of the venue. Others because of the people. Jess and Iian's wedding at Fison Barn, nestled within the beautiful Earth Trust estate in Long Wittenham, had both – with one extra ingredient that nobody could ignore: the hottest day in May.
From the moment guests began arriving, the sunshine transformed the Oxfordshire countryside. The rolling meadows, ancient trees and iconic backdrop of Wittenham Clumps created an incredible setting for a relaxed and joy-filled celebration. Fison Barn is one of those venues that perfectly balances rustic character with contemporary elegance, offering couples a blank canvas surrounded by nature. Its beautifully restored oak beams, spacious courtyard and stunning rural setting make it one of Oxfordshire's most unique wedding venues.
A Day Filled With Laughter
Jess and Iian approached their wedding exactly as every couple should – focused on spending time with the people they love rather than worrying about perfection. The atmosphere throughout the day was wonderfully relaxed, with guests finding shady spots in the courtyard, drinks flowing freely and plenty of laughter echoing around the barn.
The warm weather encouraged everyone outdoors for much of the afternoon, where conversations, hugs and happy reunions unfolded naturally. These unscripted moments are exactly what documentary wedding photography is all about, and they often become the photographs couples treasure the most.
Making the Most of the Heat
When temperatures climb into the thirties, wedding days naturally slow down. There was no rush, no pressure and certainly no complaints about the sunshine. Instead, everyone embraced the pace of the day, taking time to enjoy the surroundings and soak up the atmosphere.
As the evening light softened, the golden glow across the fields surrounding Earth Trust was simply stunning. The gentle light provided the perfect opportunity to sneak away with Jess and Iian for a few relaxed portraits without keeping them away from their guests for long. Just a short wander was all it took to create beautiful, natural photographs that reflected both the landscape and the warmth of the day.
Why Fison Barn Is Such a Special Wedding Venue
Fison Barn is one of my favourite Oxfordshire wedding venues because it offers so much flexibility. Whether you're planning a laid-back outdoor drinks reception, a rustic barn feast or a lively evening celebration, the space adapts beautifully to every wedding.
Being surrounded by nature also means there are endless opportunities for relaxed photography without ever needing to leave the venue. Every season brings something different, but on a bright spring day like Jess and Iian's wedding, it was easy to see why so many couples fall in love with this location. The beautifully restored 19th-century barn sits within the Earth Trust estate at the foot of the famous Wittenham Clumps and can host both ceremonies and receptions.
